We all know how important it is to look after ourselves both physically and mentally. There’s a reason why the airlines tell you to put on your own mask before trying to help others.
Life can seem like it whizzes past us on a daily basis, so it can be easy to focus on others and not ourselves. However, we’re here to tell you that it’s worth taking a moment for yourself every day – you deserve it! And the good news is that doing this doesn’t have to cost you anything but a few minutes of your time.
We’ve put together some simple, quick tips for how you can take care of yourself every day.
Enjoy a Long Walk
A walk costs nothing but can prove to be extremely beneficial for our health. It can help you to break up the day but also boost your mood. Being alone or stuck inside for long periods of time can leave you lacking energy or experiencing a low mood but putting time aside to go for a walk will help to clear your mind and will leave you feeling refreshed.
Use a Mindfulness App
The good news is that you can now practise mindfulness or meditation using free apps. They will give you guidance and exercise that enables you to find time for yourself. By putting time aside to listen and follow these apps could really help to free your mind and leave you feeling at ease.
Turn Off Your Phone
We seem to live all our life through our phones. From emails to checking the news and shopping but consuming all of this information can leave you feeling drained. By switching off your phone for a period of time, it will leave you free of distractions and will enable you to focus on yourself.
Do Something You Enjoy
Whether it is reading a book, listening to music or painting, by doing something you enjoy, you will be doing something for yourself. When you do something you love, you will be giving something back to yourself instead of focusing on others. Whatever you choose to do, it will act as a distraction and can help to clear your mind.
Get Rid of Clutter
If your home or certain parts of your home have become cluttered, it can have a surprising impact on your wellbeing. Clutter can leave you feeling restricted and confined so spend time clearing clutter and it will leave you feeling surprisingly positive. Furthermore, it will give you more space for you to have things that matter to you.
Learn Something New
Taking your mind off something is as simple as learning something new. You might choose to paint or you might try to learn a new instrument. Whatever it might be, it is productive, interesting, and enjoyable and will help you to shift your focus, all of which will help your wellbeing.
Help Others
This might seem as though it goes against the whole meaning of self-care but doing something kind for others can also help you. By doing something good, no matter how big or small it might be, it will leave you in a good mood and will help your self-esteem.
Self-care doesn’t have to cost the earth and it certainly doesn’t have to be complicated. So, spend time reading through our suggestions and put some time aside to focus on yourself.
